“Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.”

Our discussions and ignorance
We discuss about how we can win
And sometimes about how we lost.
We discuss great people
Their charm, palaces and money.
We can talk hours
About those expensive clothing brands
Levis, Park Avenue, Allen Solly
And so on goes the endless list.
We talk about cricket, nature
And places to be visited.
We cannot ignore those roadside stalls
Selling our favourite food
But we do ignore many things.
We ignore the torn clothes
We ignore the slums
We never discuss about
Hands with scratches
And those unhealed wounds.
We discuss about fresh roses
And forget the wilted flowers.
We discuss health and youth
But we don’t think about
Healing and the old.
We never discuss solutions.
****
Gone
I am the peel
You are the flesh.
You are a rose
I am its thorns.
You are my heart
Your smile is my heartbeat.
I am cool
You are burning hot.
I am the water
You are the vapour.
****
One wrong
She says she eats
Three oranges a day
An apple a day and
Some soaked almonds
With a glass of warm milk
Every day in the morning.
Yet one thing disturbs her parents
She is never in the pink
She falls sick very easily
They don’t know the reason
They don’t know that their daughter
Eats all sorts of rubbish stuff
Every day at the roadside stalls.
Many think they are good
They always do great things
Follow a perfect routine
And wonder why they aren’t succeeding.
It is all may be
Because of that one wrong
Something you pretend to ignore.

Thank you Sravani for writing these poems and letting Two Drops of Ink publish them. I’m thrilled with the international poets we are getting – I have poet envy. I don’t write them.
Yours spoke of the shallow, hollow, superficial in all of us, but so much more eloquently than most.
We too often only see the outsides, or if we perceive a problem, we run, rather than looking for the solutions.
Again, thank you for writing these.
Thank you so much Marilyn for reading my poems. Thanks a lot for supporting.
Sravani,
All of these poems are just beautiful. Maybe because of the things going on in our country right now, the first one spoke to me most. That last line…we never discuss solutions…just got me because it so very true. Thank you for this.
Yes Michelle, you are correct. Thank you so much for reading my poems.
