Live a Little
Did you die a little today?
Sadly, you did!
Did you live a little today?
I hope so!
The thing is,
you don’t have to live
each day,
but you do have to die a little each day!
Fear cripples so many souls;
keeps them from living good lives.
Not one of us can beat the clock or the calendar,
but we can have a Hell of a time while we
are alive!
It’s so sad to watch people go to work every day
just to pay the bills;
they’re existing not living.
Trapped in dead-end jobs that they hate;
young couples with unplanned babies,
people thinking that they’re not good enough,
not smart enough
so, they let someone else live the good life.
Take a chance on you,
take some risks to succeed!
When you wake up in the morning,
look in the mirror
and yell out,
I’m Alive!
The Only One
There was a boy
an only child;
the family doted.
Straight A grades in school,
captain of the team,
All State,
Class President,
Dean’s list,
College scholarship!
Girls doted,
Fraternity President,
All American!
Companies doted,
great job,
great family.
He had it all,
they said,
after he hung himself!
They never understood
he was alone.

My life motto is Live Fully. Your poem Live a Little, tells the story of being too afraid, or too monotonous to step out. Cancer taught me that I want more than a paycheck. Thanks for putting it so clearly.
The Only One, stirred up emotions still on the surface of my world right now. My friend’s son-in-law is the young man in your poem and it is heartbreaking to the whole family, who are asking the questions you wrote so accurately. Sad and so crushing to so many.
Rev Kevin, I struggle with understanding most poetry, but your words I could understand. It’s relatable and Powerful! Thank for sharing.
Both are truthful beautiful pieces. Love both. But the ending on the second one The Only One moved me into tears inside. This is what happens in real life. Thank you for sharing. keep moving with your poetry. With your background you have lots of stories and unfortunatly they end like the last poem. You are out to help that stop keep going. blessings
