Unanswered Questions

“Life is filled with unanswered questions, but it is the courage to seek those answers that continues to give meaning to life.

You can spend your life wallowing in despair, wondering why you were the one who was led towards the road strewn with pain, or you can be grateful that you are strong enough to survive it.” ― J.D. StroubeCaged by Damnation

As we say in the south, Michelle and I live down the road a piece from one another. No, Google won’t give you that as part of your directions, but it is “not very far.” In our case, it’s literal. She’s in the mountains of north Georgia, and I’m in the foothills. A short, pleasant drive on most days.

With so many of our acquaintances and friends only accessible online, she is one of our monthly contributors that I could have a cup of coffee with if either of us got a notion to drive the short distance. So why haven’t we?

Perhaps because I visit with Michelle through her words in every post.

I think what sets her writing apart is her outlook on life, tempered by her experiences as a cancer survivor, caregiver, and teacher.

Is the Storm Over Yet?

“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” ― Haruki Murakami

Michelle has weathered storms that would make others bitter, resentful, and full of self-pity. Instead of succumbing to these and questioning the fairness of her life, she finds a way to live fully in the moments between life’s next storm.
