______
I’ve Seen You Carrying
enough sunshine
to grow an entire
Kansas wheat field.
In disasters,
your special hugs
are a gift glue
patching fragments
together with care.
So many owe you,
banks are envious.
And your program
of no interest,
no repayment
causes skeptics
to pronounce you
a false prophet.
For you to give
those very same,
a patient smile
is so much more
than even my
envy can handle.
Object Lesson
In the fall of the year
she went crazy on me.
The demon ‘change’
grabbed her by the neck
and carried her to the outskirts
of her own possibility.
There were gypsies in the front yard,
a high wire act in the back
and strange women cooked in the kitchen.
There were morality plays
in the hall,
several brokenhearted lovers
howled unrequited ballads
in every bedroom.
When I finally cornered her,
it was in the living room
which ironically remained in tact.
“Are all these people necessary?”
I asked her.
“They seem to think so,”
and she smiled the smile
that had me playing all these roles
back when
she was the object
of my every affection.
Two Moon Romance
You awaken softly
into the intersection
of two opposed moons.
Just before feather songs
and after moonlight,
the scent of
heavy dew honeysuckle
arouses you.
A flash of initial light sparks
as you touch me
and the red breasted trill
becomes our love song.
