_____
Dawn of a New Age
And then,
The pianos fell silent
And the guitar
Refused to sing.
A bird, somewhere,
Out there
Plunged downwards
On the wing.
The clouds melted
In the cosmos
And the moon started
To cry buckets of tears
There was nobody
To herald the dawn
Of a new age.
Everybody was on
A different page.
This was a new chapter
From the CEO’s page.
Humanity was at
Its final stage.
The sense of
Wonder was startled
By consumer reports
And free market forces
Reduced everything to naught.
Nothing really mattered
Save for the counting of coins.
Technology toyed with
The human psyche
And speed turned into
The essence of life.
Nobody could enjoy
A morsel of food
And human beings
Were full of strife.
People walked like zombies
And talked like robots
The focus was on action
Without regard to thoughts.
The crisis in consciousness
Fell though, tied up
In a knot.
This was the
Start of a new century
Mankind’s sad lot.
___
Lost Elegance?
In this life,
One thing is certain:
We must strive to
Recapture a lost elegance.
Like hips swaying to
The rhythm and beat
Of music,
Like palm trees
Dancing in the breeze,
Like a frozen pond
Longing to embrace
The heat of summer,
Elegance is to be
Found in simple things
And ordinary moments.
There is elegance
In chewing food slowly,
There is elegance
In taking your time
To enjoy a sip of coffee.
After all,
Elegance is about
Living mindfully
In the here and now
And staying in touch
With reality.
It is indeed
Elegant to dream:
In search of a
Sarcastic comment
Or a scream,
Or to dwell on a distant star.
Elegance is about
Sensitivity to shade and color,
Darkness and light.
Elegance is the joyous
Expression on a baby’s face.
Finally,
Elegance enables us
To escape temporarily
From the curse
Of the human race.
