An Immediate Connection with Shahnaz
I was the assistant editor at the time and got Shahnaz’s first guest post to review. There was an indefinable connection that sometimes happens when we read a writer for the first time.
I called Scott Biddulph and tentatively suggested that we ask Shahnaz to be a monthly contributor. He laughed and said, “With only one post, you want to offer it? You know we usually wait for more posts.”
While that was true, I knew that I wanted to read more from her, so I pressed the issue and said, let’s publish this one and see about the responses.
Two Drops of Ink published Shahnaz’s first post on July 9, 2018, The Broken Promise of a Smoker, and I waited for comments, likes, or shares, knowing they would validate my opinion. I wasn’t disappointed.
With the responses, I knew that my instincts were correct, and Shahnaz became a monthly contributor. The rest, as they say, is history.
Shahnaz Radjy- The Writer, Interviewer, and Observer
Since that first post, Shahnaz has continued to impress me. Why? What does Shahnaz offer in her posts?
- A diversity of topics
- The ability to get authors to answer complex questions
- Wonderful descriptions
- Personal stories that add another dimension to her writing
- A keen eye for the details that enhance any subject
It’s not just me that is a fan. Shahnaz wrote the winning post for our Best 1000 Words for the Image Contest, voted on by readers. My Secret Legacy is full of detailed descriptions, literary devices, and stories that make this worth another read.
The Investigative Interviewer
I’m not sure how she entices so many authors to talk as candidly as they do in her interviews. Having done a few interviews now that I’ve published two books, I know that her questions are not the standard, “So, when did you start writing?”
While she may elicit that information, simple questions aren’t the norm. And, you can tell that Shahnaz has read the works of the authors she interviews.
Here’s a list of her author interviews:
Unexpected Source for Better Writing
We’ve all read outstanding books on how to write – King, Lamott, Trunk and White, Zinsser, Goldberg, Cameron, and your favorites. We can Google “Best Books on Writing” and get updates daily.
But only Shahnaz had access to the lessons she could learn from her dogs, goats, and plants, but we’re grateful that she shared them with us.
Shahnaz Radjy – A Diversified Writer
Here are other posts she’s written for Two Drops of Ink that I’m sure you’ll find entertaining, educational, or enchanting.
